What Daniela says about the programme

Why did you choose to study the master’s program in Strategic Communication at Lund University?

When I was looking for master's programmes, I was interested in a master’s program within the social sciences within a broad field, in which I could acquire knowledge that I could adapt to a career I could see myself pursuing. My bachelor’s studies were in Behavioral Science, and I have always wanted to work with people. When I found the master’s program in Strategic Communication and read about the different courses one studies within the program, I thought “this is a program for me!”

What was the best part of this program and why?

Personally, my favourite part about the program was the practical aspects – where we applied the theoretical knowledge we had gained in a course in a practical setting. For example, in one of my favourite courses in the program “Crisis Communication”, we were divided up into smaller teams, and had to simulate a crisis for another team, providing them with various challenges throughout the crisis; as well as being on the receiving end of a crisis from another team. It was enriching and challenging but also loads of fun. I also appreciated that the third semester of the program is an elective academic semester, where we could either go on exchange studies, do an internship (in Sweden or abroad) or study elective courses. I chose to pursue an internship.

What do you currently work with?

I currently work as a program coordinator at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Lund University. The job as a program coordinator can entail different things depending on where you are working. For me, my work includes, among several tasks, alumni and career relations, study advising, course admissions, registrations, and communications. I enjoy working at the faculty I have previously studied at, to see it from the perspective of staff versus how I might have perceived it as a student. I also enjoy working with students at a top higher education institution that Lund University is.

What advice would you give to new students?

My advice to new students would be not to be afraid. To enjoy this wonderful period of being a student, because (unfortunately) it will not last forever. Lund University has an immensely rich student life, take advantage of it! Join different associations and organizations, get active. The more you try out, the more you will see what you like and what you do not like, and the more experience you will gain. Not to mention all the great friendships you will form during your time as a student – both in and outside of the classroom. Have fun and enjoy!
